Property & Evidence

Not all property that is taken by or turned over to the Coolidge Police Department may be legally returned to the person from whom it was taken or collected.  This includes some items taken as safekeeping, found property or evidence.  Arizona Revised Statutes §§12-940 through 12-945 provide information concerning the handling of property that comes into the possession of the Police Department, provide when the property may be released and provide for the disposition of property that is not retrieved once notice has been provided that the property is available for release.  IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU PROVIDE AN ACCURATE ADDRESS AT WHICH YOU MAY BE NOTIFIED WHEN YOUR PROPERTY IS AVAILABLE, AND THAT YOU KEEP YOUR ADDRESS CURRENT WITH THE DEPARTMENT.

If personal property belonging to you has been impounded for safekeeping by the Police Department, it must be picked-up from the Department by you or your designee within thirty days of your receipt.

If you turned property over to the Police Department that you found, the property may eventually be available for you to pick-up.  You will be notified by mail if and when you may pick-up the property.  You must pick-up the property within thirty days of the mailing of that notice.

If property was taken from you as evidence in a pending case, the property will not be released until the case has been resolved by the courts, and the prosecuting attorney has notified the Police Department that the property may be released.  You will be notified by mail if and when the property is available for pick-up.  You must pick-up the property within thirty days of the mailing of that notice.

To claim your property you must contact the Coolidge Police Department Property and Evidence Unit at 520-723-5311 to make an appointment.  Property may be claimed at the Coolidge Police Department at 911 S. Arizona Blvd. in Coolidge, Arizona. Property Room hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
