The Honorable Mayor Jon Thompson was first elected to the Coolidge City Council in 2002. He was appointed Vice-Mayor by his peers in 2006 until 2010, when he was elected again to serve another four-year term. He was elected Mayor on August 26, 2014, where he remains today and since being elected has retired as Division Director for the Pinal County Adult Probation Department after 30 years.

Mayor Thompson’s priorities continue to be enhancing public safety, replacing and developing new infrastructure and promoting economic development with projects such as NIKOLA. Mayor Thompson believes “relationships” help progress and the community move forward.

· President of the Board of Directors for the Pinal Hispanic Council (PHC).

· President of the Board of Directors of the Sun Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization (SCMPO).

· Chairman of the Coolidge Police Dept. Public Safety Personnel retirement System Local Board (PSPRS).

· Chairman of the Coolidge Fire Dept. Public Safety Personnel retirement System Local Board (PSPRS).

· Board Member of the Rural Transportation Advocacy Council Executive Board (RTAC).

· Past president and current member of Board of Directors for Community Action Human Resources Agency (CAHRA).

· Past Chairman and current member of executive board of Central Arizona Governments (CAG).

Mayor Thompson encourages Coolidge’s youth to get involved in local government and therefore he created the “Coolidge Youth Council” to give them a voice, serve as a link between the youth of Coolidge, the Community and the City Council.

Through a passion of Mayor Jon Thompson, local organization Arizona Project WET has been retained to help elementary schools in Coolidge teach our youngest residents about water in the desert and why conservation is important.

 

Vice Mayor Tatiana Murrieta

Tatiana Murrieta was born in 1976 and has always been a resident of Coolidge, minus a two year stay in Cottonwood, Az. during the 1980's. Tatiana attended school through the public school system in Coolidge, graduating from Coolidge High in 1994 and working in the corrections field since 1996.

Tatiana is a mother of three children, active parishioner of St. James Roman Catholic Church. She is a volunteer for local events and has been a volunteer for the American Cancer Society (ACS) since 2005. In 2011, Tatiana worked with ACS staff to bring the organizations largest fundraising event, Relay For Life (RFL), to Coolidge. She has sat on the Arizona Leadership Council of the ACS RFL since 2013. Tatiana is also a volunteer for the Arizona C.O.P.S. Chapter.

Tatiana was elected to the Coolidge City Council in 2014.

 

Councilmember Tom Bagnall

Tom Bagnall is an Arizona native and has lived in Coolidge or the Coolidge area his entire life.

Tom has served the community over the years in many capacities:

· Coolidge Unified School District Governing Board-1991 through 1994 (President 1991, 1992 and 1993) and 2009 through 2012

· Coolidge Lions Club 1996 to present-(Past President, Vice-President and Secretary)

· Coolidge Chamber of Commerce-(Past Board Member and President)

· Sons of the American Legion William David Hood, Post 54-2009 to present (Current Squadron Commander)

· Pinal County Veteran's Memorial Foundation-2010 through February 2022 (Past Board Member and President)

A 2020 annexation by the City of Coolidge enabled Tom to run for the City Council and he was elected in August of 2022 and began his term on the Council in December 2022.

Tom has been employed in the title insurance industry for 42 years and is currently a Commercial Title Officer with Premier Title Agency.

Tom and his wife Penny have two sons and a daughter and one grandson and are expecting a granddaughter in February of 2023.

 

Councilmember Ian Gillespie

Ian Gillespie was born and raised in Coolidge to his father Mark and mother Kristina. He graduated Coolidge High school in 2007. After high school, he attended Adams State University on a football scholarship. After a knee injury, he ended his football career and came home to Coolidge to begin farming alongside his father. He currently runs his family’s farming operation alongside his wife and high school sweetheart, Bianca.  They have two beautiful daughters together, Vivian and Emery. Ian has served as a board member on the Arizona cotton growers association as well as the Arizona cotton research and protection council. Ian attributes his successes in his life to his family and their faith in God. They are members of The Pinal County Cowboy Church in Casa Grande and participate in volunteer opportunities there whenever they have a chance.

He looks forward to serving the citizens of Coolidge and is grateful for the opportunity to do so.

Steve Hudson was appointed to serve on the Coolidge City Council on February 14, 2011, for the remaining term through June 2012. He was elected on March 13, 2012, to serve a 4-year term. Steve served as Vice Mayor December 2022 - January 2023.

Steve is 58 years old, is married with two daughters and three granddaughters. He has been in the retail business and has lived in Coolidge for 39 years. Steve has been active in the St. James Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus for 15 years, is an Elk’s member, a member of the Planning & Zoning, and enjoys playing a golf.

Adriana has lived in Coolidge since she was two-years-old, as she was born in Colorado while her father was stationed at an Army base in Colorado.  Attending schools locally, Adriana graduated from Coolidge High School in 1998 and then continued at Central Arizona College, where she completed an Associate degree in 2000.  She then continued her education, completing a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and a Master's in Information Resources and Library Science in 2002 and 2004, both from The University of Arizona.  

In her work career, Adriana has served in city government at the City of Casa Grande as the Adult Services Librarian and the Library Manager for the City of Coolidge for 8 years.  She is currently the Director of Library Services at Central Arizona College.  In her role there she helps run the Food Pantries for students on all five campuses, she teaches information literacy classes for staff and has served on numerous committees and task forces over her ten years of service there.  

As for volunteer efforts, Adriana is co-chair for the Coolidge Scholarship Fund Committee that raises funds for Coolidge High School students to continue education after high school.  She has also been a longtime Habitat for Humanity family partner, where she taught financial literacy to families, so they were knowledgeable in financial methods to create stability as new homeowners.

As a proud Coolidge resident, she is interested in learning and working with everyone for the betterment of our community.

Born in Belle Plaine, lowa, Tom Shope arrived in Coolidge, Arizona, at the age of 4 and has lived here ever since. Shope grew up in in a home on the corner of Main Street & Elm Avenue in Coolidge and was raised in that home by his parents, Russell and Anna Shope, along with his sisters Pat, Jennifer, Mary,
and Beth. 

Upon graduating from Coolidge High School in 1966, Shope enrolled at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, Arizona and later attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. 

It was during his time at Arizona State University that Shope truly embarked on his lifelong commitment to Coolidge, Arizona, when he began his 40-plus year tenure as the "Voice of the Coolidge Bears", broadcasting for radio stations KCKY, KQEZ, and TV Channels 11 and 19. During that time, Shope painted the picture for the fans at home for 7 State Football Championship Seasons and 5 State Basketball Championship Seasons.

Shope assumed control of his family's business, Shope's Market, in 1970. He oversaw the completion of his father Russell's dream of a larger building for the market, now called Shope's IGA. From the time of assuming control of the business, Shope has been active in the Coolidge Chamber of Commerce, Retail Grocers Association of Arizona (now Arizona Food Marketing Alliance) and the National Grocers Association. Some of the highlights of that involvement include being selected as AMA's Arizona Retailer of the Year in 1999, IGA's Arizona Retailer of the Year in 1990 and the winner of NGA's Spirit of America Award in 1988. He has also served as the Chairman of IGA-Arizona and GA as well as serving a
term as President of the Coolidge Chamber of Commerce. 

Shope's political and community involvement began in 1973 when he was appointed to fill out a term on the Coolidge School Board. He served as the Mayor of Coolidge for eight terms, finishing his tenure in 2014. Recently elected to Coolidge City Council on July 30, 2024 and currently serving.

Shope attends St. James Roman Catholic Church in Coolidge, where he has resided for all but four of his
years. Shope is married to Luz and has four children; Cyndi, Zandra, Kelli, and T.J.
