2nd Annual Peeps Diorama Contest

Calling all creative Peeps! Young and old alike are invited to Coolidge Public Library’s 2nd Annual Peeps Diorama Contest. Create a diorama of marshmallow Peeps based on any theme. Recreate a book, movie, or springtime screen then bring your diorama to the library by Friday March 24 to be included in the contest. Watch social media to cast your vote and see who wins.


Guidelines:

  • Open to all ages

  • Theme of your choice

  • Make display using peeps candy of any color or type inside a standard-size shoes box

  • Don’t have any Peeps? Use card stock, construction paper, etc. Just as long as it is in the shape of a Peep.

  • Dioramas are due by Friday, March 24 at 5:00 PM

Winners will be announced via social media Monday, April 3.

AZ Speaks: Southwestern Rock Calendars

Native Americans in the US Southwest developed sophisticated skills in astronomy and predicting the seasons, centuries before non-Indian peoples entered the region. In this presentation archaeologist Allen Dart discusses the petroglyphs at Picture Rocks, the architecture of the "Great House" at Arizona's Casa Grande Ruins, and other archaeological evidence of ancient southwestern astronomy and calendrical reckoning, and interprets how these discoveries may have related to ancient Native American rituals.

Knights of the Square Table Chess Club

The library's official chess club meets the second Friday of the month at 3:30 PM. Players of all ages and skill levels are invited to learn more about the game or teach their grandmaster moves to their fellow chess enthusiasts.

Write-Minded

Do you keep a journal? Would you like to be able to write your own personal journal? Here’s your opportunity! The inexperienced, slightly-experienced, and experienced of all ages are welcome. Explore the written word together through journaling prompts, readings, and reflection. You are welcome to bring your favorite notebooks and writing tools. The library will also provide writing tools along with journals for you to use. The format is similar to many other writing groups, though focused on journaling: using assigned prompts for written exploration. Participants will have opportunities to cultivate and read their writing with the support of the community that comprises the group.

Ready for Spring Cleaning: Craft Edition

Have you ever wanted to learn to crochet? Drop by the library for this new monthly program led by Tonia Frickling. This program teaches the basics of crocheting. Learn the names of and how to crochet common stitches. Crochet hooks and yarn will be provided.

Friends of the Library Mini Book Sale
